RECOGNITION
Recognising the efforts of your staff is not just about giving them a pay packet at the end of each month. People perform at their best when they feel their efforts are being recognised on a regular basis. There are a whole host of things you can do that cost you very little, or nothing – like a simple thank you! And if your managers have the right skills they will be able to motivate your people through giving positive feedback and recognising performance.
Together we can:
- identify approaches to recognition appropriate in your business, how these can be measured and how your people might benefit.
- put in place non-cash schemes that quantify and reward good performance e.g. vouchers, holidays, entertainment events, ‘employee of the month’ schemes etc.
- review arrangements for staff involvement such as suggestion schemes.
- consider whether service-related rewards are relevant in your organisation eg additional days holiday on reaching a service milestone, or long service award schemes.
- train your managers in how to give positive feedback and praise for good performance.
- implement ad hoc arrangements that enable you to say thank you for special effort.
- put in place leaving arrangements and leaving events to thank employees who have made a contribution to your business.
- maintain a network to keep in touch with retired or ex employees.
- consider team building and social events to reward and recognise effort.
